Formal recognition for practitioners demonstrating safe, structured and evidence-informed laser therapy across general clinical practice.

General Scope Accreditation recognises a practitioner’s ability to apply laser therapy in a safe, structured and clinically reasoned way across general practice. 

It is designed to assess: 

• Safe laser therapy application 

• Understanding of the Heal With Laser Clinical Standards™ 

• Use of the Laser Therapy Framework 

• Appropriate patient selection 

• Treatment planning 

• Protocol application and modification 

• Outcome tracking 

• Reflective learning 

• Clinical reasoning 

• Understanding of when to continue, modify or stop treatment 

• Ability to communicate expectations clearly to patients 

The goal is to recognise practitioners who are not simply following settings, but thinking clinically.

Practitioners should usually have: 

• Completed Clinical Foundations Training 

• Accessed relevant Academy resources 

• Used laser therapy in clinical practice for a minimum period 

• Treated a sufficient number of patient journeys 

• Started tracking patient outcomes 

• Developed familiarity with the Heal With Laser Clinical Standards™ 

• Ideally participated in Professional Membership or equivalent ongoing education

General Scope Accreditation may require: 

• Minimum 3 months of device use 

• 20 patient journeys 

• Each patient journey to include at least 3 sessions 

• Outcome tracking using pain and function measures 

• Submission of 5 case studies or 1 case series 

• Scope-relevant literature review 

• Reflective clinical log 

• Evidence of clinical reasoning 

• Evidence of safe and structured treatment planning 

• Participation in Academy education or consolidation activities 

These requirements should be clearly listed so applicants understand that accreditation is based on real-world application, not just course completion. 

A patient journey should show more than one treatment episode. 

It should ideally include: 

• Presenting concern 

• Relevant clinical context 

• Treatment goals 

• Baseline symptoms 

• Baseline function 

• Treatment plan 

• Laser therapy approach 

• Number of sessions 

• Response to treatment 

• Any modifications made 

• Outcome measures 

• Reflection on clinical reasoning 

The aim is not to claim perfect outcomes. The aim is to show structured reasoning, safe application and appropriate interpretation of patient response.

Applicants may be asked to submit either: 

Option 1: Five case studies 

Each case study should demonstrate a clear patient journey, including treatment planning, response, outcome tracking and reflection. 

Option 2: One case series 

A case series may be more appropriate for practitioners treating a group of similar presentations. 

A case series should include: 

• A defined clinical theme or presentation group 

• Multiple patient examples 

• Shared treatment reasoning 

• Outcome tracking 

• Discussion of patterns 

• Reflection on what was learned

Applicants should show that they are tracking more than pain alone. 

Outcome tracking may include: 

• Pain scores 

• Functional changes 

• Activity tolerance 

• Recovery time 

• Patient-specific goals 

• Region-specific outcome measures 

• Condition-specific tools where appropriate 

The Academy should encourage applicants to think in terms of meaningful clinical change, not only symptom reduction.

The reflective log is an important part of accreditation. 

It should show how the practitioner has developed over time. 

Possible reflection prompts: 

• What types of cases responded well? 

• What cases were more difficult? 

• How did treatment planning change with experience? 

• When did you modify protocols? 

• What patterns did you notice? 

• What did outcome tracking reveal? 

• What would you do differently now? 

• How has your patient communication improved? 

The reflective log helps demonstrate clinical development, not just activity. 

The literature review should connect evidence to clinical practice. 

It does not need to be purely academic for the sake of being academic. It should show that the practitioner understands the evidence base relevant to their general use of laser therapy. 

It may include: 

• Key areas of evidence 

• Relevance to clinical practice 

• Limitations of the evidence 

• How evidence informs treatment planning 

• How evidence fits within the Heal With Laser Clinical Standards™ 

The expectation should be high enough to be meaningful, but practical enough for working clinicians. 

Access may include: 

• Accreditation overview 

• Submission instructions 

• Case study template 

• Case series template 

• Reflective log template 

• Outcome tracking guidance 

• Literature review guidance 

• Assessment criteria 

• Submission portal 

• Feedback process 

• Certificate or recognition process if approved

General Scope Accreditation is not: 

• A beginner training course 

• Automatic after completing membership 

• A guarantee of clinical outcomes 

• A substitute for professional registration or scope of practice 

• A generic certificate of attendance 

• Specialist Area Accreditation 

It is a structured recognition pathway based on demonstrated clinical application.
